President Message November 2023

11.30.2023

Dear APTA-RI Members and friends,

As we bid farewell to 2023, I am delighted to share with you the achievements and milestones that have defined our journey over the past year. It has been a period of growth, collaboration, and recognition that reflects the dedication and passion of our community.

Record-Breaking Annual Meeting and Celebration: Our annual meeting and celebration this year saw a record attendance since the pandemic of 140 individuals. This participation speaks volumes about the strength and unity of our small but might chapter and I extend my gratitude especially to those who organized this event.

Extension of the Diagnostic Imaging Bill: Again, our advocacy efforts have yielded results—a two-year extension of the diagnostic imaging bill. This accomplishment ensures that physical therapists in Rhode Island can continue to order X-rays, empowering us to provide comprehensive care to our patients. It is a testament to our commitment to advancing the profession and enhancing patient outcomes and lets work towards making this legislation permanent.

Membership Growth: I am delighted to share that our membership has experienced an almost 5% increase over the past year. This growth is a clear reflection of the value that APTA-RI brings to its members. Careful assessment of the feedback gained from the recent survey that was launched will ensure we can continue to evolve our offerings to support this growth.

SIG Development for Member Value: Our commitment to providing value to our members I hope is exemplified by the ongoing commitment to the development of Special Interest Groups (SIGs). These groups serve as a platform for collaboration, knowledge exchange, and professional development, reinforcing our mission to support each member on their unique journey.

Celebration of Award Recipients: This year, we proudly celebrated the achievements of two outstanding individuals within our community. Greg Doucette received the Mary DuValley Distinguished Service Award, and Toni Lee Sporito was honored with the Zelia Celeno PTA Award. We applaud both individuals for their dedication to advancing the field of physical therapy.

Looking Forward to 2024: As we embark on the upcoming year, we are eager to evolve our strategic plans based on the valuable insights gathered from the recent survey. Your feedback is instrumental in shaping the future of APTA-RI, and we are committed to continually finding ways to provide enhanced value and support to our members.

Save the Date – APTA-RI Happy Hour in Boston: Join us in Boston at CSM 2024 for a special APTA-RI happy hour celebration at Ned Devine’s in Faneuil Hall Marketplace  on February 16th (1 N Market St, Boston, MA 02109). Let's come together to revel in the successes of our small but mighty state and foster connections within our community.

Thank you for your dedication to our profession and APTA-RI. Here's to a year filled with growth, collaboration, and continued success!

Warm regards,

Michelle Collie PT, DPT, MS
