Julia Milner PT, DPT, MTC, Cert. DN attended the Federal Affairs Forum in Washington DC on April 3- 5. Please read about her experience and how she represented RI APTA.

Sunday and Monday were filled with presentations on Medicare/reimbursement changes and how and what to discuss with each member.  On Tuesday, I had meetings scheduled with each legislative assistant from both the Senate and the House sides.  Each meeting was unique and personal, it is actually quite comforting to walk in these offices and see Rhode Island on the walls-it makes you feel at home! I felt I made some really good connections with each LA and even got to meet with the Honorable Jack Reed for a brief moment-he popped out during my meeting to say hello but had limited time because he was in session. All of the conservations we had were positive and no one flat out denied any requests, so hopefully that is a success. Even Senator Reed said he would look into the PT workforce/student loan reimbursement again! Everyone seems on board with the three major bills that were presented (Medicare cap appeal/PT workforce/locum tenens). I am going to follow up with them via email this coming week to keep the conversation going.
