Fair Copays for therapy patientsFair Copy Legislation would prohibit a health payer from inappropriately shifting the cost of care onto consumers by limiting PT co-payments to no greater than that of the co-pay of an office visit to a physician or osteopath. http://www.apta.org/StateIssues/FairCopays/ Term and Title Protection At issue is the misuse the terms "physical therapy" or "physiotherapy" and titles such as "PT" or "DPT" by individuals who are not licensed physical therapists. http://www.apta.org/TermProtection/ Compact Licensure Compact aims to make it possible for PTs & PTAs to provide PT in multiple states through a single license and privilege but would only need to maintain licensure in their "home" state. http://www.apta.org/StateIssues/InterstateLicensureCompact/ Telehealth It is commonly accepted that a physical therapist can use telehealth to consult with other physical therapists; however, in general the physical therapist who provides the intervention must be licensed in the state in which the patient is receiving care, known as the originating site. http://www.apta.org/Telehealth/ Student Loan Reimbursement Physical therapists are essential members of the health care team, however many live in urban and suburban areas, creating maldistribution of physical therapists throughout the country.
