Presented by RI APTA President, Jason Harvey, PT, MS

This lecture will discuss how the Physical Therapists in Rhode Island can all band together with a common communication when communicating with patients, doctors, legislators, people in the community, etc.  We can all utilize different treatment techniques and strategies but we have to have a core nomenclature that binds us and brings validity to our practice.

By ssing the ChoosePT campaign, it will allow us to create some great public awareness.  It has already brought about some significant legitimacy to our professional association and how we impact the healthcare system.  Jason will discuss how to continue to strengthen our message and how these patients should be routed through our clinics. He will also touch on the different aspects that may affect their care, such as out-of-pocket expenses, communicating with other members of their care team, showing empathy and not pre-judging this population, and how to be the patient’s advocate.  This lecture will highlight how PT can help this population stay compliant and complete a treatment plan to achieve full recovery, working through barriers and guiding the patient to a level where the condition will not regress if they maintain a certain level of activity while avoiding pain provoking positions. Other local resources and legistlation will be discussed.
