APTA RI is happy to host this course on April 9th.  We will discuss the new legislation allowing PTs to order radiographs and learn the all the basics of determining appropriately, ordering and interpreting radiographic findings!

Objectives
  • Communicate effectively with other health care professionals about medical imaging generally and about specific findings from diagnostic imaging studies that impact patient management. 
  • Select appropriate diagnostic imaging based on American College of Radiology (ACR) Appropriateness Criteria.
  • Understand how to write a radiographic referral.
  • Integrate the information available through conventional radiography with other sources of information to aid in the management of patients.
  • Perform basic evaluation of plain film musculoskeletal radiographs that includes region and view, and assessment of alignment, bone, cartilage and soft tissues.
  • Make appropriate suggestions about choosing imaging studies that may be beneficial for patient diagnosis and intervention.

Justin Z. Laferrier PT, PhD, NCS, OCS, SCS, ATP, CSCS, AIB-VR - Dr. Laferrier is an Assistant Professor in the Physical Therapy Department at the University of Rhode Island where his academic focus and expertise is in biomechanics, amputation and polytrauma rehabilitation, adaptive sport, rehabilitation engineering, and Diagnostic Imaging. He is a Board Certified Specialist in Neurology, Orthopedics and Sports from the APTA, and a Certified Assistive Technology Professional from the Rehabilitation Engineering and Assistive Technology Society of North America (RESNA). He has Bachelor of Arts degrees in biology and psychology, an MSPT in physical therapy from the University of Rhode Island and a PhD in rehabilitation science and technology from the University of Pittsburgh. Dr. Laferrier is a veteran of the US Marines and US Army and has worked all over the world evaluating and treating some of the most severe and complex conditions found today. He currently sees patients in addition to his academic duties at the University of Rhode Island. His scholarly products include several peer-reviewed publications, national and international presentations, and book chapters.
